National team member María Isabel Huitrón Ángeles won the gold medal in the -48 kilogram category of the Turkestan 2024 World Judo Championship for the Deaf, which took place from April 10 to 12 in Kazakhstan. With this triumph, the judoka became a two-time champion, after confirming the scepter she won at the Versailles 2021 World Championships held in France.

“I am very happy for this great result, it is all thanks to my family that inspires me to keep going forward and to prepare myself a lot to get this gold medal,” shared the sportswoman.

The gold medalist at the Deaflympic Games Samsun, Turkey 2017 and at Caxias do Sul 2021, which took place in 2022 in Brazil, trains regularly with the national conventional judo team.

“This medal represents the reward for all the work of my coaches, Jorge Luis Atencio Ramirez and Carlos Carrillo Torres, my friends, my colleagues at CONADE and the Mexican Federation of Sports for the Deaf (FEMEDESOR),” she highlighted.

At the World Championship, Isabel Huitrón concluded her competitions undefeated, after defeating Alym Zhetpisbayeva of Kazakhstan, Ukraine's Yelyzaveta Didorenko and Nataliia Nenko of Ukraine by ippon (the highest score in judo, which determines the end of a bout) in the round robin of her category.

About her next goals and sports objectives, she pointed out that she has another international competition scheduled for this year, the Pan American Deaf Games to be held in Brazil (from November 10 to 17) and the Deaflympic Games 2025, in Tokyo, Japan.

“I can only share with the deaf community that I am showing them that, yes we can, that no one can say 'you can't do it', of course we can, Mexico is great,” she concluded.
