Alanís Morales Targets Repeat Pan Am Victory in Florida
Mexican canoeist Karina Alanís Morales trains in Florida for Olympic Qualifier and Pan American Championships. Aims to qualify in K2 500m with partner Beatriz Briones and secure most spots possible for Mexico.
The national team Karina Alanís Morales is in Florida, United States, where she is carrying out the last part of her preparation to participate in the Olympic Qualifier and the Pan American Canoe Championship that will take place from April 23 to 25, in Sarasota.
“I'm excited, because we're almost there to compete, calm, because I know the work we've been doing, so it's just about maintaining our shape between now and the competition; “I have to compete on (Tuesday) April 23, which is the first day of the Qualifier,” said the double Pan American gold medalist in women's kayak K2 500 meters and K4 500m, in Santiago 2023.
In Sarasota, Alanís Morales will compete alongside Beatriz Briones Fragoza, with whom she formed the successful duo that was crowned in the last Pan American Games. For Mexico, 10 selected teams attend the continental qualifier.
“My personal goal is for us to obtain a place in the K2 500, which is the test in which I am participating. For the team in general, the goal is to achieve the highest number of places we can, because there will be other colleagues looking for their passes, there is the men's kayak, the men's and women's canoe, I think that in general we are going strong, and we will fight to get the most number of places for the Olympic Games,” he shared.
The world medalist in K4 500 meters, from Halifax, Canada 2022 and winner of the 2022 National Sports Award, highlighted that they know the track on which they will compete very well.
“All the team boats are the ones who start the competitions, we go to direct finals. I am very motivated, happy to go with this team, with all my teammates, the truth is that we have prepared well, they supported us with the camps before this competition, we already know the track, a month ago, we were here, so, of course That side, I'm calm,” she said.
In Santiago 2023, Alanís and Beatriz Briones won the gold medal, in K2 500m, while Argentina took silver and Canada took bronze.
“I know the rivals, I believe that Argentina and Canada will have good boats, that will put pressure on us, just like in the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023, where these three countries make up the podium of honor, but we are ready, prepared, and waiting on the day of the competition,” concluded the native of Nuevo León.
On Tuesday, April 23, competitions will open in Mexico, in direct finals, the kayak duos made up of Karina Alanís and Beatriz Briones, for women, and Alberto Briones and Roberto Eguía for men. Likewise, Guillermo Quirino and Gustavo Eslava will see action in canoe.
The canoeing events in Paris 2024 are scheduled from August 6 to 10, at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.
