Ancer and Ortiz Fly the Flag for Mexican Golf

Mexican golfers Ancer and Ortiz made their Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Games. Despite weather interruptions, Ortiz finished 14th and Ancer 29th in the first round of the men's individual stroke play.

Mexican golf made its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, after Abraham Ancer Sagastegui and Carlos Ortiz Becerra participated during the first round in the men's individual stroke play held at the prestigious Le Golf National course, located on the outskirts of the French capital.

Although the activity was suspended a couple of times due to weather conditions, the Jalisco native Ortiz finished in 14th position with a score of 68 strokes, three under par, tied with six other competitors, while the Tamaulipas native Ancer is in 29th place with a score of 70 (-1) after achieving four birdies and three bogeys, tied with 12 other players.

For his part, the Japanese Hideki Matsuyama led the start of the discipline after signing with 63 strokes (-8), followed by the Olympic champion, the American Xander Schauffele with 65 strokes (-6) and tied in third place the Chilean Joaquin Niemann, the Argentine Emiliano Grillo and the South Korean Tom Kim with 66 strokes, five under par.

This August 2, the national teams will be in action in the second round of the men's individual stroke play.
