The entrepreneur Arturo Elías Ayub, who is the son-in-law of business magnate Carlos Slim Helú, is one of the most successful businessmen in Mexico, and this is due to his great ability to know when and under what conditions to close deals. The businessman, who currently holds important positions within Carlos Slim's companies, is one of the public figures in business with more interaction with his followers in social networks. Through them, Arturo Elías Ayub has been in charge of giving his followers different tips so that they can be, like him, successful in business.
Arturo Elías Ayub was born in Mexico, in 1966, and has Lebanese ancestry, just like Carlos Slim, since the latter's parents came to Mexico from Lebanon at the beginning of the 20th century. Arturo's parents, Alfredo Elías and Silvia Ayub owned a textile uniform factory in the Historic Center of Mexico City, which led Arturo, since he was a child, to take an interest in business since he left school and went to the factory to work. Alfredo, his brother 16 years older than him, was the General Director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
At the age of seven, Arturo Elías Ayub was already accompanying his parents to buy stationery products wholesale, to later resell them at his school. In an interview, the businessman said that as a child he liked school, but as a teenager, he began to dislike it because he did not like anything about it. "I liked going to do business, I used to escape from school to go to do business, I mistakenly felt, because now I realize that I was wasting my time, I felt that I could do more on my own than at school, and yes, I did a lot of things, but I mistakenly thought that I was wasting my time, so I was very lazy to go to school", says the businessman in the interview.
He studied Business Administration at the Universidad Anáhuac, and studied a postgraduate degree in Senior Business Management at the Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresa (IPADE). Arturo Elías Ayub met Johanna Slim Domit, Carlos Slim's youngest daughter, in 1995, to whom she is currently married. A year later, the businessman joined Teléfonos de México (Telmex), a company that his father-in-law had little control over since he had acquired it in 1990, after its privatization by then-President Carlos Salinas de Gortari. He has worked in different positions in companies owned by Carlos Slim.
Arturo Elías Ayub is famous, apart from being a successful businessman, for appearing on the program Shark Tank, where he helps entrepreneurs with innovative products to fulfill their dreams of starting businesses.
In one of the social networks, TikTok, Arturo Elías Ayub has shared videos in which he gives this type of advice for his followers to have a resounding success in business. In one of these videos, the entrepreneur gives tips on who should make the first offer when it comes to business.
According to Arturo Elías Ayub, you should always let the other party make the first offer. "I am going to give you an example, pretend you are going to ask for a permit for the party and you want to arrive at 2 in the morning, then you tell your dad: can I go to the party? Yes, at what time you arrive, then you tell me pa', then if your dad says: ok, well, at three o'clock, then you already won an hour, if he says at one o'clock, you say: no at three o'clock so that it is at two, but always let him talk first because maybe you get a surprise and he offers you something better than you thought", mentions the businessman in the video of the social network.
