Briones and Alanís Secure Spots in Kayak Semifinals
Mexican canoeists Beatriz Briones and Karina Alanís qualify for the individual 500m kayak semifinals at Paris 2024 after strong performances in the quarterfinals. Both athletes aim to reach the A final and compete in the K2-500m semifinals before.
The Mexican canoeing team, Beatriz Briones and Karina Alanís, secured their passes to the semifinal stage in the individual 500-meter kayak competitions at Paris 2024, after finishing among the first in their respective quarterfinal groups, which were held at the Stade Nautique Sur Vaires-Sur-Marne.
Beatriz de Lourdes Briones Fragoza opened her individual K1-500 meter competition in heat 3 of the qualifying rounds, with a time of 1:58.10 minutes, to place sixth in her group and move on to the quarterfinals.
At that stage, the representative of Nuevo León finished in third place in group 3 with a time of 1:53.05 minutes, to obtain her ticket to the semifinals.
Karina Guadalupe Alanís Morales finished with 1:56.30 minutes and placed sixth in heat 4 of the K1-500m qualifiers, to advance to the quarterfinals, where she earned her place in the semifinals after finishing fifth in group 4, with 1:52.86 minutes.
Only the five fastest athletes from each of the four quarterfinal groups made it to the semifinals.
The following competitions will take place this Saturday, August 10, with the performance of Beatriz Briones in semifinal 1, at 2:30 a.m. Central Mexico time and Karina Alanís in semifinal 4, at 3:00 a.m. The goal for the Mexicans will be to be among the two fastest in their group, to qualify for the A final.
