Bryan Leonel Enriquez Gonzalez’s Road to Paris 2024
Bryan Leonel Enriquez Gonzalez, a double medalist in the Parapan American Games, carries Mexico's flag at the Grand Prix of Para Athletics Xalapa 2024. With sights set on Paris 2024, he aims for Paralympic glory.
The double medalist in the Parapan American Games Santiago 2023, Bryan Leonel Enriquez Gonzalez, who was the flag bearer at the inauguration of the Grand Prix of Para Athletics Xalapa 2024, shared his pride for this designation.
“It was a great honor to carry the Mexican flag because it is an event of great magnitude, I felt very proud, it is a greater motivation to go for more in the following events,” said the 25-year-old athlete from Jalisco.
The F37 category paratriathlete placed fifth in the shot put at Tokyo 2020 and will now seek to qualify in the same event for the summer competition in Paris.
“This year I'm going all out to qualify for Paris 2024, here in the Grand Prix of Xalapa I will compete in the shot put to make a mark. We were asked to be in the top six in the world ranking and right now, I'm in fourth place, but I'm not satisfied because I want to win a medal for Mexico, and I'm going all out for that glory,” said the native of Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco.
Winner of bronze in shot put and silver in javelin throw in the last Parapan American Games, Enriquez is undergoing a rigorous training under the supervision of coach Jose Manuel Jimenez.
“It has been a very strong preparation, every year more demands are made, there are better marks, better competitors, so I am getting stronger and stronger, with more experience year after year and the goal is to have more strength and better quality (in the throws).”
Enriquez stressed the importance of the Grand Prix of Xalapa, an event that grants quotas for the World Championships of the specialty.
“This is the last event to qualify for the places for the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan, which will be in May, that's why many countries attend, to win their place; already after the World Championships the places for Paris are defined, then I'm going with everything to go to the World Championships and if I get my pass there it will be much better.”
The competitions of the Grand Prix of Para Athletics Xalapa 2024, which gathers 496 athletes from 21 nations, will take place from April 5 to 7, at the “Heriberto Jara Corona” Stadium.
