In social networks, several environmental groups, as well as society in general, released photos and videos of large quantities of sargassum, where you can also see dozens of dead fish on the beaches of Mahahual, trapped among the macroalgae.

The arrival of seaweed to the coasts of Mahahual has not only caused a negative economic impact on the tourist destination but also on the marine fauna that dies trapped among the algae.

Since the beginning of this week the discovery of dead fish on the beaches was reported, species that live in the barrier reef such as snapper, chachi, jack mackerel, moray eel, tarpon, lobster, and white mojarra.

Specialists in the subject had confirmed that each year the sargassum brings different components, such as metal on this occasion, hence the algae cannot be used in products such as partitions or beauty products. So now the investigation must focus on what caused the death of these marine species.
