The production of the export project that Stellantis and GAC have in mind has officially started. This SUV will have as reference the GAC Trumpchi GS5 will be marketed in Mexico under the Dodge name and will be called 'Journey'.
Images of the model were also unveiled at the Stellantis and GAC joint venture plant as part of the production groundbreaking ceremony. This cooperation seeks to expand Dodge models to foreign markets and bring them to Mexico.
Moreover, this alliance marks an important milestone in the internationalization of GAC Group, because it will take the SUV destined for Mexico as an opportunity to comprehensively deepen cooperation with foreign partners, and thus utilize the superior resources of both parties to carry out the global strategy.
The new model will then differ only in the radiator grille, although neither its rear nor its interior is known at this time. It should be recalled that the GS5 has a length of 4,695 mm, 1,885 mm wide, 1,726 mm high, and a wheelbase of 2,710 mm.
In terms of dimensions, the model is close to the Mitsubishi Outlander. On the other hand, in China, the model incorporates a 1.5 turbo-four gasoline engine with a capacity of 169 hp, combined with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
However, it is possible that the new Dodge Journey will arrive with a 2.0 turbo engine of 252 hp, along with a six-speed automatic transmission. In either case, the unit is front-only.
Regarding the issue, Xin Tianshu, Vice President of Business Development for Stellantis in China, said, "Dodge, as a leading brand in the Mexican market, has always focused on product quality and is committed to providing consumers with the best driving experience, which is an important reason why Stellatis chooses GAC as its partner."
