Fátima Herrera Dominates Ring, Advances to Round of 16
Mexican boxer Fátima Herrera makes a stunning Olympic debut, defeating Spain's Laura Fuertes by split decision in the women's 50 kg category. The victory propels her to the round of 16, where she will face Turkey's Buse Naz Çakıroğlu.
Mexican Fátima Patricia Herrera Álvarez stepped into the Olympic Games ring for the first time and did so with a strong punch to take the victory on points (3-2) against Laura Fuertes Fernández of Spain in the women's 50-kilogram division in Paris 2024.
Herrera Álvarez carried out an aggressive fight with successful combinations that earned her superiority on the cards 30-27, 28-29, 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28 to close out her victory in three rounds by split decision at the North Paris Arena.
The next match for the native of San Luis Potosí will be this August 1st starting at 07:46 Central Mexico time in the round of 16 against the Turkish Buse Naz Cakiroglu, seeded number three in the women's 50 kg division.
Fátima Herrera achieved her Olympic qualification at the second World Qualifying tournament held in Bangkok, Thailand last June after defeating the bronze medalist at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, Mckenzie Wright of Canada.
