Fencer Gibrán Zea Armenta Secures Olympic Spot

The fencer Gibrán Zea Armenta added his name to the list of national teams for the delegation that competes in the Paris 2024 summer event, after winning the Pan American Pre-Olympic of the specialty in the saber modality that takes place in San José, Costa Rica.
On his way to the gold medal, Zea Armenta overcame the group stage with four wins and one loss, while in the quarterfinals he defeated Guillermo Maclean of Uruguay 15-6; In the semifinal round he defeated Colombian Sebastián Cuéllar 15-7 and with a result of 15-12 he dominated Rafael Western of Puerto Rico in the final.
The sabrist currently becomes the first classified in the discipline for the next summer event to be held in the emblematic Grand Palais in France, between July 27 and August 4 of this year.
For her part, Alely Hernandez, in the women's foil category, was one step away from competing for the Olympic ticket, after losing in the semifinal 10-5 to the Venezuelan Isis Giménez, while in the men's epee specialty, Leandro Sauri May fell in the quarterfinals 15-9 against Canadian Nicholas Zhang.
The Pan American Fencing Pre-Olympic activity will continue this Sunday with the participation of Mexicans Julieta Toledo in saber, María Fernanda Morales in epee and Diego Alekce in foil.
In addition to Gibrán Zea, the Brazilian Mariana Pistoia and Nichola Zhang, from Canada, were the winners of the Olympic quotas for Saturday.
