France Dominates Olympic Mountain Bike, Mexico Struggles
Mexican cyclist Erika Rodríguez failed to finish the Olympic women's mountain biking race due to exceeding the time limit. French rider Pauline Ferrand-Prévot won gold, while American Haley Batten and Swedish Jenny Rissveds took silver and bronze respectively.
Erika Monserrath Rodríguez Suárez placed 33rd in the Olympic cross country (XCO) event in women's mountain biking after failing to finish the competition due to exceeding the time limit difference with the French winner Pauline Ferrand-Prévot who won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
For her part, the American Haley Batten took the silver medal after finishing with a time difference of 2:57 minutes in the competition that took place on the Elancourt Hill, while the bronze went to the Swedish Jenny Rissveds, winner in the Rio 2016 edition, after recording 1:29:04 hours.
Monserrath Rodríguez participated in her first Olympic Games in a race that included a 30.8-kilometer race distance made up of seven laps of 4.4 km each, where 36 cyclists from 28 nations were present on the artificial circuit with compacted gravel at a fast speed, a wooden slope and rocky areas.
On July 29, in the men's Olympic cross country (XCO) event, Mexican Zabdiel Adair Gutierrez Prieto will also make his Olympic debut starting at 06:10 hours central time, in the same venue where he will face 35 cyclists from 27 countries searching for the podium in Paris 2024.
