Garrido's Olympic Dream Takes a Hit
Luis Ramón Garrido Esquivel, a Mexican badminton player, loses his Olympic debut against Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei by 0-2. Despite a promising start, Garrido couldn't maintain momentum and fell short in both sets.
The national badminton team Luis Ramón Garrido Esquivel lost 0-2 against Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei, in his first match of the group stage in the individual competition of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which are being held at La Chapelle Arena.
The Mexican, bronze medalist at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, started with an advantage against his first rival, from group I, in what was his Olympic debut, however, he could not hold on and fell in the first set by a final score of 17-21.
In the second set, the Asian went ahead again and the cards ended 13-21, which gave the match to the representative of Chinese Taipei.
Luis Ramón Garrido will have his second duel of the group stage, on Tuesday, July 30 against Cheuk Yiu Lee of Hong Kong of China.
The 28-year-old from Nuevo León was champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 and obtained his ticket to Paris 2024 after placing 29th in the international ranking, in which the best 35 qualified.
