A highway menace who terrorized a truck driver just to steal his rig and a load of pricey shoes is heading to the slammer for a long, long time.

Carlos Rocha Moreno, a cold-blooded crook, was hit with a hefty 50-year prison sentence after prosecutors in the State of Mexico proved he masterminded a terrifying express kidnapping and robbery.

The brazen crime went down just before Christmas last year. On December 23, 2023, an unsuspecting driver was cruising along Avenida José López Portillo in Coacalco, his Dodge truck filled with valuable Andrea brand footwear. That’s when Rocha Moreno and at least one other goon, rolling in a Chevy, allegedly cut him off.

These thugs didn't just want the cargo – valued at over 400,000 pesos (a cool $22,000 USD). They snatched the driver, holding him captive while they made off with his truck and the entire shoe shipment. Hours later, the terrified victim was finally dumped and left stranded miles away in Cuautitlán Izcalli.

But Rocha Moreno’s road rampage hit a dead end. The victim bravely reported the ordeal, and the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de México (FGJEM) – the state prosecutor’s office – launched a full-court press. Cops and investigators combined field work and intel gathering, ultimately nailing Rocha Moreno for the vicious crime.

After reviewing the mountain of evidence presented by the Ministerio Público, a judge didn’t mince words, slamming Rocha Moreno with the 50-year sentence. On top of the hard time, he was ordered to pay a fine of 488,600 pesos (around $27,000 USD) and had his civil and political rights stripped away. He was hauled off to the Ecatepec Penitentiary to start his long stretch.

And the scales of justice weren't done yet. In a related move targeting this brand of highway banditry, another perp identified as Martín Díaz Martínez was also sentenced to a matching 50 years behind bars in January 2025 for his role in these violent stick-ups.

Looks like road pirates messing with truckers in the State of Mexico are finding out the hard way: crime doesn’t pay, but it sure costs you decades of freedom.
