Mexico City Authorities Strike at the Heart of La Familia Michoacana
Major blow to La Familia Michoacana as 'El Padrino' and key associates arrested in a coordinated operation by Mexico City authorities. Seized firearms, drugs, and wildlife. The crackdown underscores commitment to curb organized crime expansion in the capital.
In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, the alleged leader of a criminal cell associated with La Familia Michoacana, known by the alias “El Padrino,” was apprehended in the Tláhuac mayor's office. The arrest was part of a series of coordinated actions involving the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the Attorney General's Office (FGJ), the Navy, and the National Intelligence Center (CNI).
The operation, which took place on Adalberto Tejeda street in the Los Olivos neighborhood, unfolded dramatically as SSC officers engaged in a pursuit with El Padrino's associates. The apprehension resulted in the confiscation of a firearm, eight useful cartridges, another box with 13 cartridges of varying calibers, two cell phones, and plastic bags containing suspected crystal meth.
Intelligence gathered by the capital authorities indicates that El Padrino was involved in drug trafficking across three municipalities of Mexico City: Tláhuac, Iztapalapa, and Milpa Alta. The arrests and subsequent investigations shed light on the extent of the criminal network's activities within the city.
Secretary Pablo Vázquez Camacho emphasized the meticulous intelligence and investigative efforts that led to the identification of the criminal cell's operations. Banners signed by the criminal group in various municipalities served as crucial leads, prompting the execution of three search warrants in different properties.
The November 28 operations targeted properties in the San Lorenzo neighborhood in Iztapalapa, La Conchita neighborhood in Tláhuac, and Los Reyes neighborhood in Coyoacán. These searches resulted in the discovery of documents, white and green substances, useful cartridges, gram scales, and various seized items indicative of illicit activities.
The crackdown extended beyond the city limits. An arrest warrant was executed in Chimalhuacán, State of Mexico, against Jorge “N” for criminal association. A separate incident in Colonia Desarrollo Santa Fe in the Cuajimalpa district led to the arrest of Eriney “N” and Eduardo Bryan “N” with firearms, cartridges, a cell phone, and bags containing a white solid substance.
In a related operation in Iztapalapa, Carlos “N” and Daniel “N” were apprehended, with the latter sustaining injuries as they attempted to evade arrest, firing shots at SSC officers. The detainees face charges of crimes against health and criminal association.
Simultaneously, SSC officers executed a search warrant in Tlalpan, resulting in the arrest of Alejandra “N” and David “N,” the latter being of foreign origin. The pair was found in possession of drugs, birds, including a toucaneta and finches, and a significant number of frozen birds.
The crackdown on La Familia Michoacana comes in response to their announced arrival in Mexico City through “narcomantas” in Xochimilco and Tláhuac. The swift and coordinated action by law enforcement reflects the commitment to prevent the establishment of criminal organizations within the city.
As the detainees face legal proceedings for crimes against health and criminal association, the seized birds have been entrusted to the care of the Animal Brigade facilities for classification and rehabilitation. The crackdown serves as a testament to the determination of authorities to thwart the expansion of organized crime in Mexico City and its surrounding areas.
