Zero hour for Mexican sport has arrived, as this Thursday it will make its debut at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The presentation of the Aztec contingent will be in archery with the individual qualification rounds, where the six selected teams will shoot the first arrows.
The Tokyo 2020 medalist and current world runner-up, Alejandra Valencia, will be responsible for commanding a renewed and talented generation of Mexican archers composed of Ana Paula Vázquez, Ángela Ruiz, Matías Grande, Javier Rojas and Bruno Martínez.
The Mexican archers are part of a select group of 128 athletes from 53 countries, who will seek to reach the podium in a total of five events: women's and men's individual, women's and men's teams, as well as mixed teams. The latter had its first Olympic appearance in Tokyo 2020, an edition in which Mexico obtained the bronze medal thanks to the arrows of Alejandra Valencia and Luis Álvarez.
On Thursday at 1:30 a.m. (central Mexico time), the women's trident will jump onto the shooting range at the Esplanade des Invalides, a venue that will host all the competitions in this specialty. While the men, champions of the Antalya 2024 Olympic Qualifier, will do the same at 06:15 hours (TCM).
The individual qualifying rounds will consist of 64 archers per gender who will shoot a total of 72 arrows to define their position in the elimination phase of one-on-one matches, where the best classified will shoot at number 64, the second at number 63 and so on. The “kill or be killed” duels will take place from July 30 to August 4.
The results of the individual rounds will also be used to define the overall position of the countries in the team and mixed team events. The team events of the women's branch will be held on July 28, from the round of 16 to the medal matches; The men's tridents will have all their activity on July 29; and the mixed teams will compete on August 2.
