Marco Alonso Verde Álvarez, a Mexican boxer, makes his Olympic debut in Paris 2024 with a victory against Tiago Muxanga from Mozambique by split decision. Despite a challenging second round, Verde managed to secure the win and advance to the quarterfinals.
After passing the first round bye, the moment arrived and Marco Alonso Verde Álvarez made his debut in Olympic boxing in Paris 2024 this Wednesday by winning by split decision against Tiago Muxanga of Mozambique in the ring of the Paris Nord Arena.
“I have to control myself because we can't go crazy, we have to take one fight at a time and that's how we're doing well. The second round was complicated for us, but that's when my coach tells me that we have to throw, to press, and I'm very well, happy, we knew how to develop the fight well,” declared the Pan American champion in Santiago 2023.
The boxer from Sinaloa said that, after passing the first round without fighting, this fight against the Mozambican gives him calm, but he is focused on his next fight against Nishant Dev of India on August 3.
“This fight helps me a lot, those nerves and that anxiety, the stress of already fighting, of knowing what is going to happen, I feel a little calmer now, but just that we won and that's it, tomorrow is another day, we have fights left, and we have to focus on the next one,” said the also gold medalist at the Central American and Caribbean Games El Salvador 2023.
The Parisian venue surrendered to the boxer and with “Mexico, Mexico” in the stands, he gave a precise blow of authority to advance to the quarterfinals.
“That's what you feel that they shout Mexico to us lifts us up when we're up there because the fans are supporting us; what more can I be thankful for than that my family is here and that when I get to the corner it gives me a lift and that I have to give my best,” he shared.
