Mexican Canoeists Paddle Their Way to Semifinals
Mexican canoeing duo Alanís and Briones secured their spot in the women's 500m kayak semifinals with a strong third-place finish in the quarterfinals. They'll compete for a final spot on Friday.
The national canoeing team, Karina Alanís Morales and Beatriz Briones Fragoza, achieved third place in heat 2 of the quarterfinals of the women's 500-meter double kayak, recording a time of 1:41.45 minutes, a mark that gave them their pass to the semifinals that will take place on Friday, August 9, at the Vaires-Sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.
They started the race well and remained in the first places during the course in which the competitors printed great speed to close just two hundredths of a second below the French couple, made up of Manon Hostens and Vanina Paoletti, who finished in second place, with 1:41.43 minutes. The first place in the group went to Tamara Csipes and Alida Dora Gazso of Hungary, who clocked 1:40.57.
Before the quarterfinals, the Aztec kayakers competed in the fourth heat of the qualifiers, where they placed fifth with a time of 1:44.87 minutes.
Karina Alanís and Beatriz Briones will compete in semifinal 1 of the women's K2-500 meters, which will take place on Friday, August 9, at 2:50 a.m. Central Mexico time, a phase in which they will seek to be among the four fastest boats to access the final A. Each semifinal brings together eight competing pairs.
