In his morning conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) addressed the nation with a report on Mexico's flourishing economy. The Conferencia Mañanera began with a remarkable achievement: a record of over 21 million workers registered with the IMSS, signifying a significant recovery after the pandemic.

The President proudly emphasized the creation of more than 1.27 million jobs since February 2020, resulting in a meager unemployment rate of 2.7%, the lowest since the year 2000. Remarkably, Mexico now ranks as the fourth country with the lowest unemployment rate globally, an impressive feat bolstering investor confidence in the nation.

The contribution of remittances to the domestic market and the popular economy was acknowledged by AMLO. He lauded Mexican nationals abroad, estimating that this year remittances would exceed $60 billion, providing much-needed support to 10 million families in remote areas and injecting over 1 billion pesos annually into the economy.

Economic growth has been robust, making Mexico an attractive destination for foreign investment. AMLO recalled that in the second quarter of 2020, GDP plummeted by 18.8% due to the pandemic's adverse impact. However, the country managed to make a remarkable recovery, reaching 3.6% growth. The President set a goal of achieving 1% annual growth, which would be a significant accomplishment considering the challenging circumstances during the pandemic.

To further support families and enhance the purchasing power of citizens, the Federal Executive aimed to increase the minimum wage by over 100% in real terms by the end of his term. Comparing the purchasing power of the minimum wage at the beginning and the current time of his government, AMLO highlighted the progress achieved, exemplified by an increase in the amount of essential goods it can afford.

Social progress was also evident in the decrease in poverty and inequality, as reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). The President expressed his satisfaction with the shift in income distribution and the efforts to prioritize support for the impoverished, moving away from previous neoliberal policies that favored the rich.

AMLO also boasted about the achievements in reducing crime rates, with homicides expected to decrease by 17% by the end of the year. Such improvements were a testament to the government's commitment to tackling criminal associations established during past administrations.

The President's popularity was on a high note, with a strong 64% approval rating. He attributed this to the positive economic developments, indicating that a thriving economy equated to support from the people.

In response to controversies surrounding Free Textbooks, AMLO assured the public that the educational materials were well-crafted by specialists and not geared towards indoctrination. He dismissed opposition criticism, calling it ideological, and urged people to trust the content's quality.

Regarding international affairs, President López Obrador announced his upcoming visits to Colombia and Chile in September. In Colombia, he would participate in a meeting combating international drug trafficking, while in Chile, he would attend the anniversary of the former Chilean president, Salvador Allende.

In a show of firm leadership, AMLO expressed concern and displeasure over the inhumane actions of the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. Mexico demanded the removal of barbed wire buoys in the Rio Bravo used to contain migrants, which had already resulted in the loss of two lives.

In sum, President López Obrador's morning conference presented Mexico's progress in job creation, economic recovery, poverty reduction, and crime reduction. These achievements not only position Mexico as an attractive destination for foreign investment but also affirm AMLO's strong approval ratings and confidence in his leadership. As the nation continues to make strides in various sectors, it is poised for even greater success in the future.
