Mexico's Archers Aim High in Guadalajara
Mexico's National Archery Championship concludes in Guadalajara. New and veteran archers compete fiercely. Aída Nabila Román Arroyo shines, inspiring young talent.
After almost a week of intense competition, the 2024 National Archery Championship concluded, held in Guadalajara, Jalisco, where internationally renowned athletes, as well as the new Mexican generation of this sport, met.
A total of 46 events were contested and awarded in Jalisco territory between conventional and adapted sports; all the athletes who won medals were awarded by Matías Grande, Javier Rojas, and Bruno Martínez, who competed in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The legendary archer Aída Nabila Román Arroyo, silver medalist at the London 2012 Olympic Games, graced the event to share her knowledge and skills with the new generations, in addition to being crowned champion in the women's individual recurve.
Other recognized archers that were presented on the shooting line were compound specialists Miguel Becerra Rivas, champion at the Birmingham 2022 World Games; Maya Becerra Arizaga, current world runner-up; as well as Ana Hernández Jeon, an international multi-medalist in teams in the 2023 season.
The next major event in this sport will be the World Cup Final, to be held in Tlaxcala on October 19 and 20, where only the 32 best archers in the world (16 recurve and 16 compound) will compete individually from the quarter-final rounds.
