Mexico's Future Canoe Stars Set to Shine in Mexico City
CONADE 2024 Nationals canoeing starts today in Mexico City. Top young athletes like Isabel Aburto Romero (Jalisco) and José Roberto Eguía Alcázar (Nuevo León) will compete. 1st day features 19 races including kayak and canoe sprints.
The canoeing competitions at the CONADE 2024 Nationals kick off today, Thursday, June 27th, at the Virgilio Uribe Olympic Rowing and Canoe Track in Cuemanco, Mexico City. This sub-headquarters of the fair will host athletes between 13 and 23 years old vying for national glory throughout the event, which runs until Sunday, June 30th.
Promising Competitors Set to Take Center Stage
The competition boasts a lineup of talented young athletes, including some who have already made their mark on the international stage. Spectators can expect to see:
- Isabel Aburto Romero (Jalisco): A world medalist from Halifax, Canada (2022).
- José Roberto Eguía Alcázar (Nuevo León): Champion of the Cali-Valle 2021 Junior Pan American Games.
- Gustavo Adrián Eslava Rosas (Mexico): Runner-up at Cali-Valle 2021.
- Miguel Ángel Camilo Quirino (Michoacan): World Cup winner from Szeged, Hungary (2022).
- Nicol Guzmán Pimentel (Baja California): Pan American runner-up from Sarasota, United States (2024).
Action-Packed First Day
The opening day features a busy schedule with 19 races planned. The kayak category will see athletes compete in the men's qualifying rounds (K1-1,000 meters) for the 13-14 and 15-16 year old age groups.
In canoeing, the men's 17-18 year old category will take part in the C1-1,000 meters preliminaries, while the 13-14, 15-16, and 19-23 year old groups will compete in the direct finals for the same distance. The women's competition will feature the 15-16 year old category in a K1-1,000 meters direct final.

Following the canoeing competitions, rowing will take center stage at the same venue from July 6th to 10th. To officially kick off both sports, an Opening Ceremony for the CONADE 2024 CDMX Rowing and Canoeing Nationals will be held on Friday, June 28th at 4:30 PM in Cuemanco.
