The national team member Luz Daniela Gaxiola González achieved a historic sixth place this Thursday in the women's keirin event in track cycling during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a result that is the first time that a national and Latin American cyclist has achieved this event since her debut in the London 2012 edition.
Ellese Andrews of New Zealand took the gold medal by surpassing her result from Tokyo 2020 when she won silver, as well as second place in the women's team sprint in this edition.
The New Zealander was followed by Hetty van de Wouw of the Netherlands, silver and bronze for the British Emma Finucane, gold medalist in team sprint, while her compatriot Katy Marchant and the German Emma Hinze finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Mexican Ricardo Peña Salas finished 21st in the men's omnium event, while Frenchman Benjamin Thomas won Olympic gold on home soil with 164 points, followed by Portuguese Iuri Leitao with 153 points and Belgian Fabio van den Bossche with 131 points.
