Due to the health risk posed by the constant discharge of sewage water, Playa Hermosa in Ensenada, Baja California, is marked as unfit for vacationing by state and municipal authorities.
For the fourth time, Playa Hermosa in Ensenada, Baja California, is marked as unfit for vacationing by state and municipal authorities, due to the health risk posed by the constant discharge of wastewater at the site, informed the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris).
Upon presenting the results of the first sampling of the Clean Beaches 2022 program, the agency explained that for this Easter vacation period, 99.6 percent of the beaches are classified as apt.
The results obtained from the analysis of more than 1,900 seawater samples in 17 coastal states indicate that, out of 290 beaches, 289 are suitable for recreational use, as they meet the safety guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), having 200 or fewer enterococci per 100 milliliters of water," it said.
In a press release, he added that the four beaches considered unfit in the December 2021 monitoring, this time obtained favorable results.
They are Playa Hornos, Playa Tlacopanocha and Playa Suave in Acapulco, Guerrero, and Playa Sayulita in Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit. Cofepris added that the results are published prior to the three main vacation periods: Easter, summer and winter.
