Puerto Colombia: The jewel of Caribbean tourism
How authorities in Puerto Colombia are attempting to follow the lead of Playa del Carmen, a former fishing community in Mexico that is now one of the Riviera Maya's busiest tourist destinations.
Puerto Colombia will expand its gastronomic, recreational, and cultural offerings in two months and get a new tourist complex. In this way, this well-liked vacation spot on the Atlantic coast is en route to becoming the crown gem of Caribbean travel and a fulcrum for the regional and global enterprise.
The property has seen a significant increase in both visitors and economic activity since it was included in the list of the "25 Towns to Fall in Love". As an illustration, Playa del Carmen (Mexico), a former fishing community that is now one of the Riviera Maya's busiest tourist destinations, is being studied as a model for Puerto Colombia's macro tourism project.
This large-scale project will cost 150 billion Colombian pesos, which will go toward infrastructural improvements that will help the department's economy and tourism industry grow. With assistance from the Governor's Office, Fontur, and the local mayor's office, the repair of the pier and the vast plaza—which cost 40 billion pesos—has already been completed.
Currently, four additional initiatives are being carried out that, in the words of Miguel Vergara, secretary of economic development for the Atlantico, "would make Puerto the diamond in the crown of entertainment, art, history, and gourmet tourism." Here are some locations that are particularly noteworthy for travel in Puerto Colombia.
