Shootings have caused unease in the streets of Orizaba
People in Orizaba are being asked not to leave their houses because of the gunfire that has been going on on Monday afternoon during the intense mobilization of agents from all three levels of government.
This Monday afternoon there is tension in the municipality of Orizaba, Veracruz, due to a series of shootings that have put the inhabitants on edge. For this reason, the municipal government of Orizaba is asking people not to leave their homes due to the risk posed by the operations implemented by authorities from the three levels of government in search of alleged criminals.
It is not known at this time if there are any detainees in the shooting in Orizaba.
One of the unofficial versions indicates that a security forces operation was pursuing a criminal group that ended up taking refuge in a house located in Orizaba. Another version indicates that the security forces were trying to rescue a person, and in their escape, the criminals shot with firearms and also set fire to a gas station and a cargo vehicle.
During the incident, moments of panic were experienced by residents of the city of Orizaba due to gunshots fired on Oriente 4 and Sur 15 avenue. This caused the mobilization of elements of the Mexican Army, the Secretariat of the Navy, the National Guard, Public Security, Fuerza Civil, and Municipal Police. The alarm caused merchants in the area to close their establishments for their protection.
Casualties were reported after the shooting in Orizaba
The Secretary of Public Security activated the Code Red operation in Orizaba after receiving the corresponding report on the 911 emergency number. According to the agency, upon arriving at the emergency site, they were attacked by armed persons from inside a house.
Motorists traveling on the Orizaba-Córdoba highway reported that a trailer had caught fire on this stretch of road, specifically in the lane towards Fortín de las Flores, near Buenavista, in the municipality of Ixtaczoquitlán. However, authorities have not informed if this case is related to the shooting.
