The Mazatlan-Canada air connection is back on track
On September 27th, Westjet airline brings forward frequencies from Calgary and recovers the Mazatlan-Canada air connection.
After more than a year since Canadian flights to Mexico were suspended due to Covid-19, Westjet Airlines will resume operations from Canada to Mazatlan as of September 27th. The commercial director of the Playa Mazatlan hotel, Alfredo Zenteno, confirmed that the arrival of flights to the destination will be brought forward for the winter season.
He stated that next week the first flight from Calgary will arrive in Mazatlan with a weekly arrival every Saturday, and later on the frequencies will be increased. "At the end of this month flights from Canada will start to be reactivated and flights from Calgary will start arriving, by October Vancouver and Edmonton will be added and in December Sunwing, from the western part, will start to be activated", he said.
He expressed that the return of Canadian flights to the destination represents the reactivation at an international level, where Mazatlan is believed to be a first travel option. He indicated that although there is still a connection with the United States, seats are limited, but it is expected that by the end of October flights from the American Union will increase.
The hotel executive pointed out that in the case of domestic airline seats, they are on the rise, and that it has been domestic tourism that has maintained Mazatlan's tourism sector. "Logically we have focused on national and regional because they are the easiest to move and can help us increase hotel occupancy on weekends," he concluded.
September 27th is the date when Westjet Airlines will restart operations from Canada to Mazatlan. Flights from Calgary will start arriving at the end of this month, Vancouver and Edmonton will be added by October and Sunwing will be activated in December.
