Tourism in Mazatlan recovers; 80% hotel occupancy reported
Guillermo Romero, president of the Hotel Commission of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism, states that the drop in Covid-19 infections has helped tourism to come to the port, especially from the Center and North of the State.
Tourism in Mazatlan is recovering; this weekend alone there was an 80 percent hotel occupancy rate, informed Guillermo Romero, president of the Hotel Commission of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism of the Port.
The businessman highlighted that this increase is mainly due to the drop in Covid-19 cases in the Municipality, which generates confidence in visitors to spend a few days in Mazatlan.
"We are seeing that right now we have been favored by the drop in the pandemic, for example, Mazatlan is now, that changes to green traffic light we are at 80 percent hotel occupancy, we had a good rebound this weekend," he said.
"This means that when tourists and families want to travel, obviously this is good for us because Mazatlan lives off tourism, and when the pandemic goes down, and we have seen how cases are decreasing, we have a notable change this weekend," he added.
The chamber leader indicated that most of the visitors to Mazatlan are from Central and Southern Sinaloa, although there was also the presence of people from other states in the country.
"It is due to the fact that the states that are very close to us turn to see us and visit Mazatlan, families are always monitoring tourist destinations, they are looking for a place where contagions are going down", he explained.
"We had many visitors from Torreon, Queretaro, Nayarit, Jalisco, a good market, but 60 percent come from Central and Southern Sinaloa; this weekend we had a large number of Sinaloans who visited us, who came to Mazatlan to enjoy the Port," he added.
Guillermo Romero also said that we must not let our guard down, as contagions can rise if sanitary measures are relaxed.
"We must continue to follow the protocols we have in place, such as antibacterial gel, the sanitizing mat...everything we have been doing must continue to be done, the call is not to lower our guard," he explained.
