3 thousand athletes will take part in the Tulum Marathon
The Marathon Tulum route will start and end at the municipal palace; there will be three categories: 42, 21, and 5 km.
On December 4, 3 thousand athletes from more than 30 countries will take part in the Tulum Marathon, whose objective is to consolidate the ninth municipality as a magical route to practice this and other Olympic sports.
In a press conference held this Thursday morning, Marcos Matos, director of Mexico D, organizer of the event, explained that a total of 42 challenging kilometers will be covered by the participants. The route will start and end on the first floor of Tulum's municipal palace; there will be three categories: 42, 21, and 5 kilometers.
He emphasized that the race will be free for locals: "all people who live in Tulum and want to run is free, they only have to come tomorrow Friday to register and anyone who wants to walk five kilometers, have a t-shirt and a medal is welcome at no cost".
He informed that they guarantee a sum of one million pesos in prizes for a competition that they hope will be "the first stone in the construction of one of the best marathons in the country". He emphasized that an economic revenue of 200 million pesos is expected before, during, and after the event, which will take place on December 4, from 5 to 11 pm.
He mentioned that the city has begun to receive the marathon runners, who will acclimatize to this region during December 2 and 3, days in which they will receive their participation kits from the organizers.
This sports festival -he said- will have a national and international projection thanks to the coverage of ESPN RUN, an informative space specialized in this discipline within the sports television channel operated by The Walt Disney Company and which reaches more than 86 million homes in the United States and other 200 countries.
"It is not a sporting event, it is a tourist event because it will expose Tulum in parts of the world with an alternative that is not recreational or beach, it is to reach a niche that is a sports tourism through a channel that will not only film the marathon but will record the destination to attract healthy tourism and leave a significant economic spill," he said.
It is worth mentioning that to guarantee security during this sporting event, the state government and the City Hall are coordinating the pertinent police actions.
