Trade wars are so last century. Can't we all just get along and share some tacos and maple syrup?

The Trump administration confirmed Friday it will move forward with imposing sweeping tariffs on Mexico and Canada starting Saturday, February 1, despite speculation of delays, escalating trade tensions with two of America’s closest neighbors. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed reports suggesting the tariffs would be postponed until March, asserting the administration’s intent to follow through on a campaign pledge that has reignited debates over trade, migration, and North American economic integration.

At a press briefing, Leavitt refuted a Reuters report citing unnamed sources who claimed the tariffs would not take effect until March, with “few” exceptions. “Contrary to this information, Saturday, February 1 was confirmed as the start date for the 25% tariffs on its North American neighbors, and 10% on China,” she stated. When pressed about potential exemptions for critical goods like oil, Leavitt said there was “no update” on whether such carve-outs would occur.
