Veteran Rider Replaces Teammate in Mexican Show Jumping Team for Paris
Mexico's Olympic show jumping team gets a shakeup. Vet issues sideline a horse, bringing back veteran rider "El Fenómeno" Fernandez. Young talent Azcárraga steps up. The team preps in Belgium before heading to Paris for the Olympics.
The Mexican Equestrian Federation (FEM), led by its president Juan Manuel Cossio Vásquez del Mercado, announced a change in the jumping team that will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Mexican pair Federico Fernández Senderos (Romeo) will arrive as a reserve and will replace José Antonio Chedraui Eguía (H-Lucky Retto) because the mare will be undergoing veterinary treatment.
Federico Fernández will attend his fourth summer fair after being present in the editions of Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012, in addition to being part of the team that obtained the historic silver medal in the Nations Cup of the World Equestrian Festival that was held at the beginning of July in Aachen, Germany, in addition to the team that achieved the Olympic quota at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
Fernández will join the pairings made up of Eugenio Garza Pérez (Contago), Carlos Hank Guerreiro (H5 Porthos Maestro WH Z) and Andrés Azcárraga Rivera Torres (Contendros 2), who was previously announced as reserve rider and now changes to be considered the rider Number Three.
The jumping team will gather near the city of Antwerp, Belgium on July 27 where they will have a meeting with team leader Mark Laskin, veterinarian Geoffrey Vernon, as well as coaches Daniela García and Rafael David Faes, later, they will settle in the city of Versailles, Paris, on July 30.
