Dirty Cop's Den? Drugs, Scales Found in Chic Agent's $4 K-A-Month Pad
TIJUANA -They say justice is blind, but in Tijuana, it might just be living a double life. State investigative agent Itzel Areli, a woman tasked with putting crooks behind bars, is now at the center of a sordid scandal that could land her in the slammer. The state's top prosecutor revealed the shocking discovery of drugs and scales—the tools of the trafficking trade—inside one of the agent's two high-priced rental homes.
State Attorney General Maria Elena Andrade Ramírez is not mincing words, announcing that a simple administrative probe against the agent could "escalate to a criminal complaint". The bombshell dropped after a raid on one of Itzel Areli's properties, for which she was shelling out a combined 80,000 pesos (a cool $4,400 USD) a month in rent. Inside the home in the swanky Montecarlo neighborhood, investigators found small quantities of drugs and, more damningly, scales used for weighing narcotics.
The agent has been suspended to ensure "transparency" in the investigation. But the plot thickens. The initial searches of her homes in the Montecarlo and Balboa districts were allegedly conducted by the State Security Force (FESC) without a warrant, according to the top prosecutor. It seems this agent's high-flying lifestyle has officially crashed and burned, and the fallout is just beginning.
Satanic Slayer? Suburban Madman Kills 4, Leaves Bizarre Occult Messages
TIJUANA -A quiet neighborhood was shattered by unimaginable horror when a local man went on a deadly rampage, gunning down four people and wounding another in the Divina Providencia colony. But this was no ordinary slaying. When authorities stormed the home of the killer, they didn't just find a weapon; they found a den of madness, littered with bizarre messages and references to occult figures.
The specialized homicide prosecutor, Miguel Angel Gaxiola, stated the multi-murderer showed clear signs of "mental alteration" when he was nabbed by state forces, weapon in hand and visibly disoriented. Before he was taken down, the shooter had already ended the lives of neighbors in a tenement and a local business owner.
Neighbors told reporters the attacker had long exhibited strange behavior, including constant shouting and erratic attitudes, though they never suspected it would escalate to such brutal violence. Now, as the city reels from the carnage, the killer faces a sentence of up to 100 years behind bars, even as the prosecution investigates the extent of his psychiatric disorders. Psychiatric evaluations will be key, but for the victims' families, justice can't come soon enough.
Beach Blanket Bash! 25,000 Fans Kick Off Baja Beach Fest Mayhem
PLAYAS DE ROSARITO - Get ready to party! The sleepy beaches of Rosarito are about to be swallowed by a tidal wave of music, madness, and beautiful people as the seventh annual Baja Beach Fest kicks off today. A staggering 25,000 tourists and locals are expected to descend on the sand for the three-day urban music extravaganza, which runs through Sunday.
The star-studded lineup features some of the biggest names in the game, including Latin superstars Maluma, Don Omar, and J Balvin, ensuring a weekend of non-stop beats. Hotels are already reporting an 85% occupancy rate, with officials confidently predicting they'll hit 100%.
"In this edition, we're anticipating close to 25,000 visitors," said Leonardo Verdugo, the Secretary of Economic and Tourism Development for Playas de Rosarito.
Local officials are urging festival-goers to leave their cars behind and use ride-sharing apps like Uber and Didi to avoid an epic traffic jam. With the party officially on, Rosarito is the place to be, but you might have to fight for your spot on the sand.
Tijuana Mayor Vows to End Garbage Woes
TIJUANA - There's a new king in town, and he's talking trash. Tijuana's freshly minted mayor, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, has declared war on the city's festering garbage problem, promising to roll out 300 new collection routes to clean up the streets.
Kicking things off with a flourish, Burgueño launched 10 new garbage routes in the Ribera del Bosque neighborhood, a community that he says has been waiting 22 long years for reliable, free service.
"You will never pay for garbage collection again, ever," the mayor proclaimed to cheering residents. "Before I was Mayor I promised: 'when I'm Mayor I will collect the trash for all of Tijuana'".
The city currently has 814 routes, and the mayor vows to bring that number up to 1,114 by December, with 80% of the new services concentrated in the long-neglected eastern zone. With this ambitious plan, Burgueño claims trash collection will be guaranteed for 98% of all Tijuanenses, a bold promise in a city that's been drowning in its own refuse for years.
Boy, 9, Killed by Bus While Riding 'Devil's Skateboard'
TIJUANA - A family was plunged into mourning after a 9-year-old boy was tragically struck and killed by a personnel transport bus in the city's Terrazas del Valle neighborhood. The horrific accident happened Wednesday evening when the boy, riding a scooter known locally as a patín tipo "del diablo"—or "devil's skateboard"—darted into a main road from a slope and was hit by the oncoming bus. The driver of the Freightliner truck, a 35-year-old man, was detained at the scene. Paramedics arriving at the intersection of Hacienda San Angel and Hacienda Los Pinos could only pronounce the child dead at the scene, his body left lying beside the wheels of the massive vehicle.
Tijuana Tackles Violence Against Women
TIJUANA - The city is taking a stand to create a safer environment for women, holding the second ordinary session of its Municipal System to Prevent, Attend, Sanction, and Eradicate Violence Against Women. Tijuana is reportedly the only municipality in Baja California with such a comprehensive program, which includes an evaluation system. Arceli Márquez Peña, director of the Municipal Institute for Women (IMMUJER), reported that over 300 cases of violence have been integrated into the national database.
Fewer Jobs in TJ This Year, Industry Group Says
TIJUANA - It's a tough time to be on the job hunt in Tijuana. According to the Association of Human Resources of the Industry in Tijuana (Arhitac), 2025 has seen the fewest job openings in the city's industrial sector in the last five years. "Comparatively, it has been the year with the fewest vacancies in the last five years that we have kept statistics," said Arhitac President Diana Reyes Herrera. Despite the downturn in available positions, industrial workers saw a 12% salary increase this year, with another 12% bump expected for 2026.
The Motorcycle Clubs
Hell’s Angels, Bandidos, Mongols—these aren’t just biker gangs; they’re international franchises with better branding than most startups. The Mongols, for example, call themselves “the baddest 1% club known to man.” Their hobbies? Homicide, intimidation, and defending territory—like a HOA meeting, but with more leather. Meanwhile, Vagos MC claims to be about “brotherhood and charity”… while allegedly trafficking meth.
Tourist tip: If a biker offers you a ride, just say you’re “more of a Uber person.”
The Divorce Heard ‘Round the Norteño World
Singer Alicia Villarreal is officially divorced from Cruz Martínez after alleging domestic violence. The final hearing was on Zoom, because even heartbreak is virtual now.
🍻 Parting Shot
If you’re hitting the Baja Beach Fest, rent a car in advance — traffic will be insane. Stay in Rosarito for beach access, but eat in Tijuana. The tacos al vapor at Mercado Hidalgo are worth the drive. And if you see a woman named Alicia dancing alone under the stars? Buy her a drink. She’s earned it.
